Joe Rodon, a tall Welshman who plays in central defence for Tottenham, has joined Stade Rennais on loan with an option to buy in next season.
Stade Rennais’ accelerated move has paid off, just a few days before the start of the new Ligue 1 season 2022-2023. The Red and Black announced this Monday the arrival of Welsh central defender Joe Rodon (24 years), on loan with an option to buy at nearly 20 million euros.
“Tottenham defender and 24-year-old Welsh international Joe Rodon joins Stade Rennais F.C. on a season-long loan with an option to buy. Eager to play in Europe, especially for the next World Cup in Qatar, Joe Rodon will find the atmosphere of the edges of the Vilaine“, says the press release of the Bretons to make official the 3rd summer signing, after Steve Mandanda and Arthur Theate.

Rennes, ideal land to finally confirm the hopes?
The team trained by Bruno Genesio finally has a new reinforcement in a sector of play decimated this summer. Nayef Aguerd having joined West Ham while the young Warmed Omari is currently recovering, Florian Maurice and his teams have long sought the ideal profiles without success (Samuel Umtiti, Kim Min-Jae, Morato). After the arrival of the Belgian international Arthur Theate from Bologna on Friday, the Rennais realize an interesting bet with the player of Tottenham, also Welsh international (27 caps).
Recruited in October 2020 by Tottenham, in exchange for a check of € 12 million after having exploded with his formative club Swansea, Joe Rodon has never managed to make his mark with Spurs. During the 2021-2022 season, Rodon played only 10 games in all competitions (including 4 in the Premier League) under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte. Rennes offers him a great opportunity to launch his career at Roazhon Park.
