Rumours have surfaced, which speculate the Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri could end up leaving Chelsea and move back to Italy, where he enjoyed a successful campaign as Napoli manager from 2015-2018.
Maurizio Sarri joined Chelsea from Napoli in the summer of 2018, after 3 successful seasons at the (Italian) Blues. While he never managed to defeat Juventus and reclaim the title of Serie A champions, Napoli under Sarri did put up a good fight at the top and consistently finished in the top 3. Nonetheless, after arriving in England, Sarri failed to live up to the expectations, which made many people wonder if his career as a manager at Chelsea has come to an end. While the speculations alone are not enough to make us believe he will end up in Italy once more, Sarri contributed to the rumours with a comment he made when he was asked about his future at Chelsea. He stated:
“If I am still at Chelsea? I think so but I’m not sure. I can only say that the club asked me to come to the Champions League and we hit the target. You know it well. I love English football, I love the Premier League.”
“It’s fantastic, it’s at the top level in the world, I think. The atmosphere in the stadiums is wonderful and I would really like to stay.”
To be fair, the statement could be understood in two different ways. Some seem to focus on the part where he stated he is unsure about his future, while others only see the part when he confirms he achieved the goal with Chelsea. Sarri was brought to the club to bring them into the top 4, and back into the Champions League, which means he basically did his job, so this surely won’t be the last season with Chelsea right?
Well… here we are once again greeted with speculations what point the other way. First of all, we must talk about the Chelsea transfer ban, which will mean the upcoming season might prove to be a tough one. Is Sarri ready for this task is yet to be seen, however, he knows himself, that the 2019/20 season will be a hard one for the Blues. Then there are the speculations Roma already made a move towards Sarri, offering him a contract if he decides to come to Italy next season. That is arguably the biggest news, which could potentially mean Sarri will leave Chelsea.
After being turned down by Conte, Roma decided to take a shot at Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, who they believe is the perfect man to fix their ongoing managerial situation issues. While Sarri stated, he likes the Premier League, we must consider the fact Chelsea fans are not particularly happy with him, which could result in Sarri leaving the hostile environment for warmer weather and fans in Italy. Maybe the fans will change their mind if Chelsea manages to win the Europa League, but while we wait for that to happen, we can expect more speculations to arise, which by now is a normal occurrence in the football world.
If we want to try and answer the question of where will Sarri end next season, we would need to go through all the speculations that fill the sports news. Some report he is staying, while other confidently states that he is moving to Italy. In the end, only time will tell where will Sarri end up next season.
