West Ham United have revived their interest in Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and could submit an offer in the summer.
Harry Maguire, 31, was on the verge of leaving Manchester United last summer but decided to stay at the club. West Ham boss David Moyes tried his best to sign the England international but a move didn’t materialise as the Red Devils wanted over the odds for the out-of-favour defender. In addition, the centre-back would not take a huge pay cut to make the move happen.
However, West Ham are planning a fresh approach for Maguire when the transfer window reopens. The Irons are reportedly ready to submit a £15 million bid as Maguire enters the final year of his contract at Old Trafford. The Englishman may be open to a move to the London Stadium that would extend his stay in the Premier League.
West Ham consider new bid for Maguire
It has been an up-and-down Man United career for Harry Maguire since arriving in a £85million deal from Leicester City in the summer of 2019. After a tumultuous last two years, the 31-year-old managed to force his way back into the team this season before injury. He has made 24 appearances across all competitions, netting two goals.
The England international will enter the final year of his lucrative deal at Old Trafford, with the club having a further option of extending his stay for 12 months. But given the extensive changes set to happen under new minority investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club may be tempted to cash him in the summer. A strong 2024 European Championship with England would see Maguire increase his value, forcing West Ham to pay more than their intended £15 million.
Maguire hopes to enjoy regular football next season and moving to West Ham would be ideal. The Englishman would improve the Hammers defensively with his aerial ability, leadership and passing skills. He is a strong player and will bring volumes of experience into the dressing room as well.
If David Moyes’ side manage to secure European football for the next term as well, they will certainly be an attractive destination for Maguire.
