Manchester United are among several clubs paying close attention to the performances of Turkiye winger Baris Yilmaz at the 2024 European Championships in Germany.
Baris Yilmaz, 24, has been impressive for his nation in the ongoing European competition this summer, participating in all three of his side’s group-stage fixtures as they advanced to the round of 16. A meeting with Ralf Rangnick’s Austria awaits Turkiye.
While the 24-year-old Galatasaray star hasn’t scored a goal yet at the Euros, his all-round display and versatility has caught the eye. Manchester United are reportedly running the rule over Yilmaz, who headed to the Euros off the back of a title-winning campaign with Galatasaray. He registered six goals and seven assists in 37 league games as Galatasaray won the Super Lig title with a remarkable 102 points.
Recruiting a new winger on Man United’s agenda?
Manchester United appear interested in bolstering the wide department after underwhelming 2023/24 campaigns for Antony and Marcus Rashford. The duo failed to produce the goods consistently in the final third, with the latter also spending a period on the sidelines owing to a muscle injury.
Alejandro Garnacho had what could be branded as a successful season out wide for Erik ten Hag’s side. For the Mancunian heavyweights to challenge for a top-four spot next season, signing a wide player is of paramount importance. This could be the reason why they are keeping tabs on Baris Yilmaz.
Baris’ performances for Galatasaray and Turkiye have encouraged Man United to follow him closely. However, they could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur in the winger’s pursuit, while Brighton and Hove Albion and Lazio have also been linked with the Galatasaray man. The Turkish champions have set a price tag of over €25m for Yilmaz, who can play anywhere across the front-line but predominantly features as a right-sided winger.
Yilmaz could prove to be a utility acquisition for Man United. His speed, energy and work rate, combined with his versatility to operate across the front-line, could benefit Erik ten Hag’s side massively. At 24, he is yet to enter his prime and the opportunity to showcase his talent in the Premier League could be an appealing proposition for the player.
All in all, Man United must improve their squad’s depth by bringing in Yilmaz.
