Manchester United considering move for FC Utrecht midfielder Taylor Booth

Manchester United are considering making a bid for FC Utrecht midfielder Taylor Booth.

Taylor Booth

Erik ten Hag raided the Eredivisie last summer during his first transfer window as Manchester United boss, bringing in the likes of Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Antony. He could do so again as he looks to continue rebuilding his squad after a solid debut season at Old Trafford which saw the Red Devils finish third in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup.

The Manchester United boss is keen on reinforcing his midfield unit ahead of the 2023-2 season. Taylor Booth has emerged as an option for Manchester United, with Ten Hag reportedly a known admirer of the FC Utrecht midfielder. It is understood that the Dutch tactician maintains strong links to his former employers and keeps track of their progress, so he has been impressed by Booth’s performances this season.

Mason Mount remains a priority for Man United

Manchester United’s primary focus is still on Mason Mount as they continue to try and reach an agreement over a fee with Chelsea. Despite making three offers for Mount, the Red Devils have so far fallen short of meeting Chelsea’s £65m valuation.

Mount is about to enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and wants to leave Chelsea this summer. As the England international is pushing for a move to Old Trafford and has no interest in signing a new contract, Man United feel their latest £55m offer including add-ons is enough to persuade the Blues into selling their player.

While United have left their seemingly final offer on the table and are showing no willingness at this point to increase their offer, Erik ten Hag and the club have started exploring other possible alternatives to Mount. And Taylor Booth is one of those, although the Reds are yet to make an approach for the FC Utrecht midfielder.

Man United view Taylor Booth as a Mason Mount alternative

Taylor Booth enjoyed his breakthrough campaign with Utrecht in 2022/23, scoring two goals and providing four assists on top of that in 25 league appearances. And he seems to quickly establish himself in the USA national team, winning two caps so far with his debut coming earlier in March in a CONCACAF Nations League match against Grenada.

The 22-year-old’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Lyon, Celta Vigo and VfB Stuttgart all vying for his signature. Man United has been touted as a possible destination, with Ten Hag viewing Booth as an alternative to Mount.

As things stand, the Red Devils will continue to push to strike a deal with Chelsea for Mount over the week or so but will also be keeping track of Booth’s situation at the Eredivisie club.
