Manchester United and Newcastle United are among a host of Premier League clubs interested in signing Celta Vigo midfield prodigy Gabri Veiga.
A product of Celta Vigo’s youth academy, Gabri Veiga, 20, broke into the first team back in during the 2020/21 campaign. Since then, he hasn’t looked back and is currently enjoying his breakthrough campaign with Celta. The Spanish under-21 international has made 23 La Liga appearances so far this season, bagging eight goals and laying on three assists.
Having shone in La Liga this season, Veiga is garnering plenty of interest from clubs across Europe. Clubs from Germany and Spain are also looking at the youngster, who is contracted to Celta until 2026. However, the midfielder’s contract has a £ 35 million release clause. Man United and Newcastle are reportedly monitoring the Spaniard’s performances ahead of the summer transfer window.
Man United, and Newcastle vying for Gabri Veiga’s signature
The central midfield looks set to be the in-demand position in the Premier League this summer, with most of the division’s top clubs, including Manchester United and Newcastle United, hoping to bolster the position.
Manchester United are believed to have not yet moved on from Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, with Erik ten Hag planning to pursue the midfielder again this summer. The Red Devils failed with their persistent hunt for De Jong at the start of the season, having seen the Dutchman reject the move in order to stay at his dream club.
As for Newcastle United, Eddie Howe lost Jonjo Shelvey to Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window. This weakened their midfield unit and Howe will want to reinforce it in the summer. He is aware of his side’s lack of quality depth in that position, with Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff the only senior central midfielders currently present.
Thus, it is not a surprise to see both Man United and Newcastle eyeing a move for Celta Vigo’s talented midfielder, Gabri Veiga. A promising talent who is already making some of Europe’s big hitters sit back and take notice, Veiga could be primed for a big move in the near future. He is just 20 years old and enjoying his breakthrough campaign with Celta, so there is a possibility that the Spaniard decides to stay in Spain for another year and reject advances from Man United and Newcastle in the summer.
