Liverpool prepare Mason Mount contract

Liverpool have identified Mason Mount as one of their summer’s top transfer targets and are preparing a contract offer for the Chelsea midfielder.

Mason Mount

Mason Mount, 24, is nearing the final year of his contract at Chelsea and he is no closer to agreeing on a new deal with the West London outfit. Since making his breakthrough for Chelsea during the 2019/20 campaign, the England international has been a mainstay for the club and played a key role in the Blues’ 2020/21 Champions League success. However, his form has dipped this season with Chelsea struggling in the Premier League and dumped out of the Champions League.

The Blues are keen to hold onto Mount and will also offer him a new improved contract after previous talks collapsed. The midfielder wants to be paid in line with some of the Premier League’s biggest stars and Chelsea as of now have been unable to satisfy his requirements. Liverpool reportedly are looking to take advantage of the situation and feel they can lure Mount away to Stamford Bridge with a lucrative contract.

Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Mount and is eager to add him to his midfield ranks next season. The Reds are seemingly favourites to land the 24-year-old, although they face strong competition from other Premier League clubs for the midfielder’s signature.

Liverpool pull out of Jude Bellingham race

Liverpool are planning to shake up their midfield unit, so much so that they have pulled out of the race for the signing of Borussia Dortmund sensation Jude Bellingham in favour of acquiring more players.

Bellingham, 19, has been Liverpool’s top target for some time and it would take over £120m to sign him. But due to the extent of the rebuild needed throughout their squad, the Merseyside club have had to cool their interest in the English central midfielder.

The 19-year-old, one of Europe’s most coveted midfielders, could leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season as he looks to take the next big step in his burgeoning career. Reluctant to get sucked into a bidding war deep into a summer where they simply need a massive revamp to come back stronger next season, Liverpool have opted to move on from Bellingham.

Mason Mount being eyed by Liverpool

Liverpool are eyeing a move for Chelsea’s contract rebel Mason Mount. The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and would not cost a fortune compared to other Premier League-proven midfielders.

To address their midfield woes, the Reds could do with a seasoned campaigner like Mount. He will come as an upgrade on underperforming stars such as Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson. The England international has been badly out of form for much of the season but the potential is clear to see, with his versatility to operate in different positions also providing Klopp with many options for a low cost.

Interest in Mount appears to be concrete following Liverpool’s decision to prepare a contract offer. It will be interesting to see whether or not the Reds follow it up with a summer bid.
