Aston Villa and Brentford keen on Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson

Aston Villa and Brentford are among a host of clubs interested in signing Bologna’s highly-rated midfielder Lewis Ferguson in the summer transfer window.

Lewis Ferguson

Lewis Ferguson, 24, has been a revelation since leaving Aberdeen for Bologna in the summer of 2022, and a deal worth £3m is now proving to be an absolute snip. The Scotland international, who signed a contract extension with Bologna until 2027, has bagged six goals and three assists in 28 Serie A appearances this season.

Several Serie A sides including Juventus, AC Milan and Lazio have been intensely scouting the 24-year-old, who is expected to be sold in the summer. Aston Villa and Brentford reportedly face strong competition for Ferguson’s signature, with Bologna trying to raise at least €30m from his sale. It is believed that Aberdeen inserted a 15 per cent sell-on clause into the deal when selling the Scot two years ago.

Lewis Ferguson could be tempted to play in the Premier League

Aston Villa have been excellent this season and are pushing to qualify for the Champions League. Unai Emery will look to build on it by retooling his squad. Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson is among the stars on the club’s radar, as Emery looks to use the summer transfer window to push his forces further toward the top of the Premier League table.

Ferguson would be a solid acquisition for Villa, adding energy, steel, creativity and goals to their midfield unit. As Douglas Luiz has been linked with Arsenal, the 24-year-old could be a fine potential replacement for the Brazilian at Villa Park.

As for Brentford, they need to add more goals and flair to the side. Ferguson has 11-goal contributions for Bologna across all formats this season, and he would significantly enhance Brentford. In addition, the Scot would also provide physicality and threat from set-pieces.

Ferguson has shown his quality in Serie A, and he will be tempted to test himself in the Premier League if the opportunity arises.
