Arsenal keeping tabs on Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise

Arsenal are interested in signing Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners will be in the transfer market to reinforce their attack, as manager Mikel Arteta aims to bring in a player to complement the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Eddie Nketiah. Trossard was signed from Brighton in January and the Belgian has impressed so far for Arsenal, making eight goal contributions in 14 appearances.

Despite Trossard’s contributions to the team, Mikel Arteta is keen on adding depth to his attacking unit next season and has reportedly identified Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise as a potential summer target. Olise, 21, has emerged as one of the most promising young talents in the Premier League following his eye-catch displays at Selhurst Park. The fleet-footed right-winger has bagged eight assists and two goals in 29 Premier League appearances thus far this season.

Arteta is believed to be a big fan of Olise and feels that the 21-year-old ticks all the boxes he desires in terms of age, cost and potential resale value. The Crystal Palace man is a right-sided forward or winger, but he has also been used in an advanced midfield role.

Michael Olise viewed as an ideal Bukayo Saka backup

Bukayo Saka has been sensational this season, playing a key role in Arsenal’s rise to the summit. He is a mainstay on Arteta’s side and hasn’t missed a game for a very long time for the club. Even though Saka has become a constant attacking force and keeps delivering the goods, it is not wise to keep playing the England international without giving him a breather.

Thus, the Gunners must make it a priority to sign a backup for Saka on the right flank. And a player like Olise would be an ideal choice. He fits the profile of signings Arteta has usually made at the Emirates Stadium, and the 21-year-old appears to be ready to play for one of the Premier League’s bigwigs.

With chances of Crystal Palace getting involved in a relegation battle high, Olise could represent a smart and potentially cheap piece of business for Arteta’s side. Palace would be looking for at least £40 million for the 21-year-old, who has a contract until the summer of 2026. However, there is a possibility that the price will drop to around £35 million if they suffer relegation.

Having registered 10 goal contributions in 29 league outings for a struggling side, it is certainly clear that Olise is a top talent and can scale great heights in the future.
