Denmark 0-0 Tunisia: Denmark’s tactical variations weren’t enough against Tunisia

Denmark presented three tactical versions during the game, but Tunisia held the opponent’s offensive momentum.

Denmark 0-0 Tunisia

With the debut ballads of Argentina, Poland and France on the same day, the duel between Denmark and Tunisia represented for many the “pause moment” on the first day of the World Cup with four games.

Even so, there was good anticipation for Christian Eriksen’s debut at the World Cup, especially after the drama overcome at Euro 2020.

Denmark started with three defenders, entering the field with Kristensen (earning a spot on the wing), Dolberg at center forward and Eriksen on the left. On the other hand, Tunisia also opted for three defenders in an attempt to “mirror” the Danes.

In relation to the first half, Tunisia was superior with a lot of aggression without the ball. With possession of the ball, three defenders made it difficult to apply pressure. Denmark did not come back quickly due to the good performances of Skhiri, Msakni and Bem Slimane, generating advantage inside.

With that, Denmark tried the alternative of rotating the ball more between the defenders to try passes in depth, forced by Andersen, looking mainly for Skov Olsen. Eriksen was moved to the center.

In the second half, the Danish team opted for a third strategy using a lineup of four players. Cornellus was positioned as a center forward (target for the long ball), in addition to Jensen in the middle, releasing Eriksen as number 10.

However, Tunisia managed to remain firm and competed until the end, holding the tie against the Danes, a strong defensive team that was only conceded goals against Brazil after the African Cup of Nations.

The result was terrible for Denmark, who will need to beat France or Denmark in the next two games to think about ranking second in the group.

Alissa Laidouni was the main player of the match, a central midfielder who made important decisions during the game and managed to make great use of passes, being important offensively and defensively.

Finally, another positive highlight was the referee Cesar Arturo Ramos, who did not signal an absurd penalty after the VAR call for a review.
