Tottenham ready to accelerate move to land Juventus youngster Samuel Iling-Junior

Tottenham have expressed an interest in Juventus youngster Samuel Iling-Junior ahead of the winter transfer window.

Samuel Iling-Junior

The excitement was palpable among the Juventus supporters when Samuel Iling-Junior made his breakthrough into the Juventus first team last season. After displaying his talents consistently at the U19 and Next Gen levels, he has earned a promotion to the senior squad under Max Allegri. This prompted Juventus to extend his contract until 2025.

However, Iling-Junior, 20, has failed to shine in the Juventus first-team this season. The youngster finds himself behind Filip Kostic and Andrea Cambiaso on the left wing-back’s pecking order, limiting him to just four Serie A appearances off the bench. Dissatisfied with his lack of game time, the 20-year-old’s entourage have begun exploring potential moves ahead of the upcoming winter window.

Tottenham recently sent scouts to watch Iling-Junior in action for England U-21s in their win against Northern Ireland, and they are reportedly ready to accelerate their plans to land him in the New Year.

Samuel Iling-Junior on Spurs radar

Tottenham are likely to dip into the transfer market for reinforcements following injuries to key first-team players. James Maddison and Micky van de Ven are injured, so Ange Postecoglou could bring in a new midfielder and centre-back in January. In addition, the Spurs boss might also target a winger to act as cover for the injured Richarlison, who underwent groin surgery earlier this month.

Samuel Iling-Junior has emerged as a potential target for Tottenham. The England under-21 international can play on either flank as well as through the middle, which could make him a valuable asset in Tottenham’s squad which is beset by injury problems. He can also operate in a deeper midfield role, as highlighted by Juventus boss Max Allegri.

Iling-Junior is a prodigious talent and being only 20 years old, that age profile is what Spurs are after as they look to build a young and hungry squad that will grow under Postecoglou. A January transfer is very likely for him as Juventus want to free up space and funds for a midfield recruit. The Serie A giants would be open to cashing in on Iling-Junior for €20m in the winter window. The player wants to leave the club in search of regular game time and a move to Spurs could be ideal.

Postecoglou might look to try and persuade Iling-Junior to join his forces in north London. A return to England seems inevitable for the youngster, who only joined Juventus in 2020 from the Chelsea youth academy.
