Tottenham are among a few Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Lille forward Jonathan David.

One of the most in-demand strikers in Europe, Jonathan David, 22, has been a revelation since joining LOSC Lille from Belgian club Gent in the summer of 2020. The Canadian international has racked up 110 appearances for Lille to date, registering 41 goals and eight assists.

With nine goals and three assists in 14 appearances, the 22-year-old has started the new Ligue 1 season in stunning form, catching the eye of Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle United as a result. At international level, David has 22 goals from 34 international appearances—a phenomenal record.

David is rated at around £40 million by Lille but a successful World Cup in Qatar next month should see his valuation skyrocket. It is only a matter of time before the talented Canadian is snapped by a bigger club.

Meanwhile, Tottenham remain fourth in the table despite losing 2-1 to Liverpool on Sunday. The north Londoners have performed well this season and are genuine contenders for a top-four finish.

In Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura and Richarlison, Tottenham have an exciting attacking unit that can rip apart any defence in Europe on their day. However, with Richarlison and Kulusevski enduring an injury-hit campaign, Moura not getting a look in and Son suffering a dip in form, Antonio Conte may look to splash again on attacking reinforcements.

Going by the progress the team has made under Conte, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy could free up funds in January to boost the club’s top-four push. A new attacker is seemingly on Conte’s agenda amidst links with Jonathan David.

David was a vital player in Lille’s title-winning side of 2020/21, bagging 13 goals and three assists in 37 appearances. Since his electric debut campaign in Ligue 1, he has not looked back and only got better. With nine goals already in 14 games, the Canadian forward is on course to better his last season’s tally of 15 strikes.

While Tottenham has other areas in the squad to reinforce on priority, David is an exceptional talent with a big future ahead of him. At just 22, he could be a quality long-term signing for Spurs if they can manage to cough up the money in January.

Lille are wary that they are going to struggle to hold onto their star striker much longer and that might be even sooner than they fear if Canada does well in World Cup. An exciting player, David has the potential to be a surprise star in Qatar. If he makes a great impact, expect Tottenham or some big European clubs to intensify their interest in the player.
