Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United vying for Wolves star Pedro Neto

Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle with Newcastle United for the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto.

Pedro-Neto-Wolves

Despite injuries hampering his progress, Pedro Neto, 24, has been one of Wolves’ standout performers in recent seasons. The winger, who joined the Wanderers from Lazio in the summer of 2019, is highly coveted in the Premier League. He has seen his stock rise after eye-catching performances when fit, and after spending five seasons with Wolves, the Portugal international remains keen to move to a bigger club.

The 24-year-old has been linked with several clubs in the Premier League, including Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. If Neto leaves Wolves this summer, he would reportedly prefer a move to Tottenham due to the Europa League on offer. Newcastle missed European football this past season, meaning Spurs hold a clear advantage for the Portuguese winger’s signature.

Tottenham not afraid to go all out for Pedro Neto

Ange Postecoglou enjoyed a fine debut season in north London and almost helped Spurs qualify for the Champions League. He hopes to go one better than last term’s fourth-place finish in the Premier League and break the club’s long trophy drought.

Tottenham have not shown hesitancy in splashing the cash this transfer window, with youngster Archie Gray arriving in a £30million deal from Leeds United and Timo Werner’s loan move from RB Leipzig also being extended. After the acquisition of Gray, they are in the market for attacking reinforcements. Pedro Neto, in that regard, would be a good fit for the north London side.

Capable of playing on both flanks, Neto would add energy, creativity, flair and goals to Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs. He is a fine dribbler who can help Tottenham unlock rigid defences. Amid an injury-hit 2023/24 campaign, the 24-year-old managed three goals and registered 11 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions for Wolves.

There is no doubting Neto’s quality but his fitness and injury record in the last two years remains a big concern for Tottenham. In addition, Neto has three years remaining on his contract which leaves Wolves in a strong negotiating position. So, it won’t be a straightforward deal for Tottenham.

Should the Lilywhites miss out, Newcastle may get a chance to lure Neto away from Wolves. The Magpies need to bolster their squad after a disappointing 2023/24 season. Signing a back-up striker to Alexander Isak and a quality winger should be a priority for them, and a player like Neto will enhance Eddie Howe’s squad immensely. The ex-Lazio man will add more pace and unpredictability to Newcastle’s attack whilst being a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon, who is heavily linked with a switch to Liverpool.

That said, it will be interesting to see what happens with Neto this summer.
