Manchester United have been linked with a move for Mallorca playmaker Lee Kang-in ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils need just one point from their last two games to guarantee qualification to the Champions League next season. Amid takeover uncertainty, Erik ten Hag has started planning for the summer transfer window as he looks to build on a positive debut season at Old Trafford.

Lee Kang-in is believed to be among the options to provide strength to the Manchester United squad, with the Mallorca star keen on a move away from La Liga at the end of the season. Man United have reportedly enquired about the 22-year-old, although Atletico Madrid are currently leading the race for his signature.

The South Korean, who is also on the radar of many Premier League clubs, has made a mark in La Liga. The versatile attacker has enjoyed a good season with Mallorca, registering six goals and four assists in 34 outings. Considering the interest he has garnered of late, a summer move away from Mallorca seems imminent.

Lee Kang-in could thrive in Ten Hag’s system at Old Trafford

Lee Kang-in is a clever, agile and creative attacking player who has shown at Mallorca that he can operate in a number of roles across the front-line and midfield. Although he has played most of the games on the left flank this season, Lee is known for his positioning as a creative midfielder.

Bruno Fernandes has once again been among Man United’s most influential players, using his passing skills and vision to create tons of chances for the forwards this season. He is an extremely creative presence in midfield for Ten Hag’s side, and his durability to be available throughout the campaign makes him such an asset to the Mancunian club.

However, Ten Hag’s have often struggled with squad depth, with the drop in quality beyond first-choice midfield trio Fernandes, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen huge. But as Fernandes has relentlessly played this season, Ten Hag would be keen to reduce the Portuguese’s workload and keep him as fresh and fit as possible next term.

Lee Kang-in would certainly help in addressing that issue. Left-footed, Lee could potentially provide cover for Fernandes while also being another option out wide. Man United may be able to offer Champions League football should they clinch a top-four finish, as well as the prospect of developing under the watchful eyes of Ten Hag.

The Red Devils are in the market for some attacking options and may see Lee’s potential availability in the summer and make a move. The South Korean has the qualities to become a smart acquisition for United, but they must swoop fast for him with Atletico Madrid favourites to land him.
