Manchester City are the latest European club to join the race for Fiorentina’s highly-rated centre-forward Dusan Vlahovic.
Dusan Vlahovic, 21, has enjoyed huge success since moving to Fiorentina in 2018 from Partizan Belgrade. The Serbian has been a revelation for the Viola in an otherwise underwhelming campaign in Serie A, netting 19 goals in 33 appearances. His hot goalscoring streak this campaign has put him on the radar of a number of elite European clubs.
The 21-year-old has a contract with Fiorentina until the summer of 2023. The Serie A club are desperate to keep hold of Vlahovic and are very much keen to extend his contract, with Spanish giants Real Madrid also interested in the youngster.
As far as Manchester City are concerned, they are on the brink of winning the Premier League title. The Cityzens are 13 points above their second-placed cross-town rivals Manchester United, whose game with Liverpool on Sunday had to be called off after fan protest against the Glazer family’s ownership of the club.
Manchester City must replace Sergio Aguero in the summer
Manchester City have already confirmed that star striker Sergio Aguero will leave the club at the expiry of his contract in June. Meanwhile, Chelsea are monitoring striker Sergio Aguero’s situation at Manchester City ahead of a potential move this summer.
Sergio Aguero, 32, is widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation and one of the best players to grace the Premier League. With 258 goals in 386 appearances, he has played a monumental role in City’s rise as a force in the Premier League as well as in European football since the last decade. The Argentinean striker, a legend at the Etihad Stadium, has won four Premier League titles, six EFL Cups and one FA Cup trophy so far with the club.
In spite of spending much of the last two seasons with injury problems and fitness concerns, Aguero is still a force to reckon with, and the goal against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday clearly demonstrated that. Although City have coped well in the Argentinean striker’s absence with Pep Guardiola opting for a false 9 system for much of this season, it’s a no-brainer to replace one of the most decorated and esteemed players to wear the sky-blue shirt in Aguero before the next campaign commences.
Is Dusan Vlahovic the right fit at Man City?
Dusan Vlahovic has become one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe following his goalscoring exploits with Fiorentina. He has netted 19 goals in 36 games across all competitions so far, feeding off scraps for much of the campaign.
Standing at 6ft 3in tall, the Serbian is strong, powerful but nimble-footed striker who is lethal in front of the goal. On Sunday, he netted a brace against FC Bologna in a thrilling encounter that ended 3-3. Vlahovic’s potential is clear to see for everyone and he can be a smart long-term prospect for City, with the centre-forward more than ready to ply his trade in the Premier League.
Aguero leaving City at the end of the season should leave Guardiola with Gabriel Jesus as the only recognised striker in his squad. Thus, signing a striker has to be an absolute must for City and they would do themselves a world of good by landing Vlahovic this summer.
