Kylian Mbappe’s Transfer to Santiago Bernabeu Postponed

The French wonderkid and as of now the most valuable player in the world, Kylian Mbappe has appeared on the radar of Real Madrid who are currently in the middle of a very expensive, yet very interesting rebuilding process, which already costed them for over € 300 million.

Another disappointing season for Real Madrid called for drastic changes at Santiago Bernabeu, which started off with the re-appointment of Zinedine Zidane as a new head coach of Los Blancos, a team he coached between 2016 and 2018. Before Zinedine Zidane returned to Madrid, his only demand was to have full power over the departures and arrivals from and into the club, which he got and that was the day when the much-needed rebuilding process of Real Madrid started.

Zinedine Zidane had a list of players he wanted to bring into the club and it did not take him long to start crossing out players. Only weeks after the transfer window opened, Real Madrid managed to acquire Rodrygo, Mendy, Militao, Jovic and of course Hazard, who costed the Los Blancos over € 300 million. At this point, we would have thought Real Madrid have finished their shopping spree, but we would be wrong. As it was reported by numerous media outlets around the world, Real Madrid expressed high desire to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG in what could be the new world record transfer fee.

Sitting at € 200 million market value, Kylian Mbappe is without a doubt one of the best young players in the world and a true football superstar at only 20 years of age. Considered to be one of the best at only 20 years of age, it should not come off as a surprise he ended up on Real Madrid wishlist. As one of few clubs that could potentially afford him, the news of a possible record-breaking transfer quickly spread and not surprisingly grabbed a lot of attention, however, as it may seem, the transfer just might not happen this summer.

As reported by Marca, Real Madrid have decided to not go through the transfer this summer, but rather try and approach Kylian Mbappe in the summer of 2020. The decision came after the realization they are not in a strong position to enter negotiations at the present time, which leaves them with only one option, which is to be patient and wait for more favourable circumstances to develop. The key factor that made Real Madrid realize their chances to sign the Ligue 1 Player of the Year was the statement from PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, that Mbappe won’t be going anywhere this summer.

Still, the speculations of Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid won’t die out so quickly, especially after what Mbappe said at the Ligue 1 award in May:

“This is a very important moment for me, I am arriving at maybe the first or second turning point in my career. I have learned so much here, and I feel it’s maybe the time to have more responsibility.”

“Maybe at PSG, that would give me great pleasure, or maybe elsewhere for a new project.”

While Real Madrid players showed their desire to play alongside Kylian Mbappe by chanting his name at Eden Hazard’s unveiling at Bernabeu, we are still left wondering how Kylian Mbappe feels about a possible move to Madrid. Will this move happen or not is still unclear, however, from all the information we got, it would be safe to assume that a possible record-breaking transfer just might not happen this summer?
