Barcelona planning to sign Andres Christensen for free next summer

Barcelona are keeping a close watch in the free-agent market with the former La Liga champions looking to spend as little as possible. The financial issues at Barca are well documented and are for everyone to see.

The past summer, for instance, Barcelona made a total of three marquee signings in Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero, and Memphis Depay. The three players though, arrived at the club on a Bosman and the Blaugrana are looking to raid Chelsea for Andres Christensen who has approximately six months left in his current contract at Stamford Bridge.

The defense of the Blaugrana has been one of the major talking points with it being relatively unchanged since 2017. Having said that, the additions of Eric Garcia and Ronald Araujo into the first team dynamics have been working well for the former La Liga champions to an extent but it is not enough. The backline at Camp Nou has been relatively unstable and timid, with them not being able to maintain the intensity across the entire duration of 90 minutes.

Andres Christensen, who will soon be out of contract next summer, could join Barcelona. Barcelona are said to be interested in signing the Dane whose profile matches their requirements. The 25-year-old recently switched agents and the think-tank at Camp Nou believes that their good ties with the player’s agents could play into their hands. Having said that, Chelsea will be looking to keep ahold of their man with Antonio Rudiger close to leaving the Blues on a Bosman as well. Rudiger is being targetted by Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona but the Los Blancos look the best poised to sign the German defender.

What kind of a deal are we talking about here?

Chelsea will not be open to losing both Christensen and Rudiger for free at the end of the season. With that said, the former was close to signing a new contract with the former La Liga champions earlier in this season but the negotiations have stalled, with the player now free to hold official talks with any potential suitors that might approach him.

The source understands that the Blaugrana have offered the 25-year-old defender a four-year contract with the option to extend by one year.

Do Barcelona really need Christensen?

Barcelona will be immensely benefitted if they do manage to sign Christensen on a free transfer as one of their main priorities for the next summer is to strengthen their backline. It remains to be seen if the Denmark defender would be open to a potential La Liga switch.

Christensen has established himself as one of the vital cogs in Thomas Tuchel’s dynamics and the Blues will be hoping to count on him in the event that Rudiger does not agree to a new contract with the reigning UEFA Champions League champions

Barcelona will need to act fast if they want to lure Christensen to Camp Nou for the next season. This month will be the key for the Blaugrana.

Do you think Christensen will be a good fit at Barcelona?
