Who Will Be The EPL Top Goalscorer This Season?

The EPL golden boot is one of the most sought after and one of the hardest individual award any Premier League player is looking to win at the end of the season. While we rarely get to see a player win the Golden Boot twice in a row, it has become rather common to see the winner playing in one of the “top six” teams. In fact, that was the case for each of the last 19 seasons of EPL. Will that tradition repeats itself for the 20th year in a row is yet to be seen, however, looking at the odds offered on Golden Boot winner, it seems like it will.

Now let’s check which players are considered the most likely to win the Golden Boot and which player do we consider the most likely to achieve that feat.

Who Will Be the Golden Boot winner this season in Premier League?

Harry Kane 5.00

Despite playing only 28 Premier League matches last season, Harry Kane scored 17 times, which is an impressive achievement, especially if we consider all the injuries that plagued his season. Other than that, Kane has been very consistent with his goal scoring in previous years, with 20+ in all of the last three seasons. A lot of that success is due to the fact he is the main striker in Spurs, which will change in the next season. Son Heung-Min is expected to take over some goal scoring responsibilities, just like he did last season when Kane was injured, which will reduce the number of goals Kane will be able to produce.

Mohamed Salah 6.00

One of the rare footballers in the history that have won two Golden Boots in a row, and potentially one of the only three that will win three in a row, we have got Liverpool superstar Salah. Priced at 6.00 on most bookmakers, Salah is the second favourite to win his third golden boot and while betting on him might be tempting, we believe it’s worth avoiding doing so. The main issue is that both Mane and Firmino improved drastically, which should benefit Liverpool as a whole, but on the other side will also mean all three players will have to split the goals. Meaning Salah will have a hard time catching up to players who are the sole and only designated striker in their clubs.

Sergio Aguero 6.50

Impressive striker, who had an excellent campaign in 2018/19 will look to continue his legacy as one of the best EPL strikers in 2019/20 as well. As the third favourite to win the Golden Boot, Aguero will have the same issue as Salah when it comes to his chances of winning the Golden Boot. Gabriel Jesus is expected to get more minutes for City, with Aguero already 31 years of age. That is not to say he will not be deadly with the ball in 2019/20 season, however, he will have to compete with Jesus for the goals.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 9.00

Tied with Mane and Salah with 22 goals last season, Aubameyang hopes he can defeat his fellow Africans comes 2019/20 season. With Gabon not making it to Egypt, Aubameyang will enter the upcoming season refreshed, which will not be the case for Mane and Salah. Meaning the Arsenal striker will have a huge opportunity to start off the season strong and score a couple of goals. Then there is also the fact that Arsenal looked very strong offensively in offseason, mostly due to the arrival of Pepe which on its own will benefit Aubameyang with his goalscoring campaign.

Sadio Mane 13.00

There is not a lot to say about Mane that has not already been said. A very potent player who has tied his teammate Salah with 22 goals last season will look to repeat this feat in 2019/20 season as well. However, just like Salah, Mane will have to share his goals with Firmino, meaning backing Mane to finish with the most goals is not recommended in our eyes, especially with names such as Aubameyang, Kane and Aguero all striving to reach the same goal.

The EPL golden boot prediction

All in all, when it comes to our prediction on who will win the 2019/20 Golden boot, we have to side with Aubameyang. Harry Kane, while very potent striker had a lot of issues with injuries last season, especially his ankle, which as we know is an injury that does not simply go away. Salah as the second favourite to win the Golden Boot is not our favourite for two reasons. First of all, he needed 104 shots last season to score 22 goals, which is not as good as some other strikers. Second thing, which we have already mentioned, is the fact that Salah will have to compete with Mane and Firmino for goals, making him a very risky pick in our eyes. That leaves us with Aubameyang, who will not only enjoy additional support from the wing in Pepe, but has also proven to be much more efficient with the ball compared to Salah, with 22 goals in only 72 shots. All in all, Aubameyang is priced very generously at 9.00 and we believe he should be seriously considered as a potential Golden Boot winner.
