The England international, who has been a rare bright spot for Newcastle United this season, scored goal number 50 with an outstanding header in a surprising yet crucial win over Everton. He’s enjoyed a stellar start to life in the North-East, although it must be said that 41 of his first 50 top-flight goals came in his five-year Premier League spell at Bournemouth, where he did very well despite a number of injuries. Here we look back on five of Callum Wilson’s most iconic Premier League goals so far.

The best 5 goals of Callum Wilson

  1. First goal: Vs West Ham (22nd August 2015)

As newcomers to the top flight for the first time ever back in 2015, few knew what to expect from Bournemouth, and indeed from Wilson. In their third match of the season against West Ham, Wilson got off the mark, with not one, but three Premier League goals. His, and Bournemouth’s, first ever goal in the top flight came with a powerful finish from inside the box, from a low ball in. It would kick-start a very impressive goal record against West Ham for the striker.

2. 50th goal: Vs Everton (30th January 2021)

After an eventual relegation with Bournemouth and subsequent move to Newcastle, goal number nine for the Magpies, and number 50 overall for Wilson came against Everton at Goodison Park. The forward headed in from a corner, a simple goal in concept, but one that came with clinical precision, from around 12 yards out. As well as bringing a personal achievement for Wilson, it could well also prove to be oh so important for struggling Newcastle.

3. Best goal: Vs West Ham (18th August 2018)

At the start of the 18/19 season, Callum Wilson came back to haunt West Ham once more, rubbing salt in the wounds by scoring the finest Premier League goal of his career. Receiving the ball just inside the opposition half, Wilson was faced with four opposition defenders, and spectacularly dribbled past the lot of them before slotting the ball through Fabianski’s legs. It was a timely equaliser in what turned into a great win for Bournemouth, as the Cherries began their fourth consecutive top flight season with a bang.

4. Most important: Vs West Bromwich Albion (10th September 2016)

Despite a bright start to his Premier League career in 2015, Wilson soon ran into some injury problems, missing most of the rest of his debut season in the top flight. Fast forward to September 2016, and he scored his first Premier League goal in nearly a year, as Bournemouth beat West Brom 1-0. It was an important goal for his team, who got a win on the board after a slow start to the season, but more so for him personally, the goal reigniting what would eventually become an impressive career for the striker at Bournemouth. Although more injuries would come his way, this really did feel like a crucial moment in Wilson’s career and his team’s season.

5. Most Memorable: Vs West Ham (22nd August 2015)

Another moment, another strike against West Ham. This moment once again goes back to the day that the striker first burst onto the scene in the Premier League, this time focusing on his third and final goal of the match, a composed penalty to help his side claim a 4-3 win. It was memorable for several reasons; Wilson’s first top flight goal, first hat-trick, and even more significantly, Bournemouth’s first top flight win in their entire history, one that kick-started their five-year Premier League stay. As significant as it was, Newcastle’s new star man will be hoping to create many more moments like that during his stay on Tyneside.
