After a successful season with Aston Villa, John McGinn caught the attention of the Red Devils, who reportedly plan on approaching Aston Villa in hopes to strike a deal for the 24-year-old central midfielder.
Following their €55,00 million transfer of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace and €17,00 million transfer for Daniel James from Crystal Palace, Manchester United are reportedly on a hunt for the exciting talent John McGinn, who has played a huge role in Aston Villa’s successful campaign in the Championship. As it was reported by The Sun, the Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to add the 24-year old midfielder to his squad as one of the players, who will play a crucial role in his planned rebuilding process at Manchester United.
John McGinn’s Career
Looking back at John McGinn’s career, his football path started off at St. Mirren, a Scottish team, where he made his first senior appearance in 2012. Following 3 years of playing at his childhood team, John McGinn was approached by Hibernian FC, who paid St Mirren approximately €1 million for the young talent. During his time at Hibernian FC, McGinn won the Scottish Cup in 2015/16 and even managed to finish as the Scottish champions a year later. Clearly showing huge potential, he got approached by Aston Villa who saw potential in him and decided to bring him into the squad. Joining Aston Villa in August of 2018, John McGinn did not fail to live up to the expectations, as he managed to play a crucial role in his teams return to Premier League after three long years playing in the Championship. In his 2018/19 season with Aston Villa, he played a total of 48 matches across all competitions, scored 9 goals and added 12 assists, proving he is capable of playing on the highest level and deliver results on a regular basis.
As it was reported, Manchester United are now getting ready to offer an opening bid for the Scotland international, who has been in talks with Aston Villa over a contract extension. Knowing what they have got in their hands, Aston Villa will not let go of John McGinn easily. With their re-appearance in the Premier League on the horizon, League Villa will need all the manpower they can get to compete against the best English teams and losing a player like John McGinn will leave a huge dent. A dent which has reportedly been given a price tag of €55,00 million. Will United match the asked price is yet unknown, however, if Aston Villa fails to find a common language with United regarding the price of their star, they could find themselves in a situation, where they will have to stop John McGinn from leaving to Manchester United, which considering how big of a club United is might prove to be much harder said than done. If, however, the deal goes through, John McGinn would become the most expensive Scottish player, passing Oliver Burke, who has moved to RB Leipzig for €15,20 million in 2016.
A possible €55,00 million move would also be something his former team Hibernian FC would like to see, as they can expect to receive 20% of the transfer fee due to a clause John McGinn has in his contract with Aston Villa.
