Bayern Munich did it again, they won the Bundesliga and extended the record to 7 consecutive titles on Saturday, when they crushed Eintracht Frankfurt in the title-deciding match, which put them 2 points above Borussia Dortmund.
Bavarians reached their 29th Bundesliga title on Sunday after a dominant win against Eintracht Frankfurt, who stood no chance against reigning Bundesliga champions.
A 5:1 win against Europa League semi-finalists was a great finish of a tough season behind Bayern Munich, who had their ups and downs. The 2018/19 season was filled with disappointments, shocking results and criticism for Niko Kovac‘s team, who at one point looked like they won’t be able to pass Borussia Dortmund in the title race, but the experienced team once again proved the doubters wrong and finished the league with 78 points.
Looking at the title-winning match against Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern showed their might and proved to the naysayers they deserve to win the title once more. Boasting veteran players such as Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben, among others, Bayern, even though they were trailing behind Borussia Dortmund weeks ago, once again climbed back to the top with consistent performances. Talking about veterans Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben, the duo were also among the 5 goal scorers who sunk Eintracht Frankfurt ship on May 18th.
The match against Eintracht Frankfurt started with an early goal from Coman, who got the home side into a lead. Following a 4th minute goal, Bayern pushed for another one but failed to score once more in the 1st half despite a total of 8 goal attempts and 65% ball possession. Moving to the 2nd half, Bayern Munich suffered a shocking goal, only 5 minutes into the last 45 minutes, which got the teams levelled. With 40 minutes to go and the game levelled at 1:1, Bayern knew it was no or never, as they unleashed their full power upon helpless Eintracht Frankfurt. In the 8 minutes that followed, Bayern scored twice with help of Alaba and Sanches, and while a 3:1 result would be more than enough, Ribery and Robben decided they will not take any chances as they scored twice more in 72nd and 78th minute, thus sealing the deal and bringing the title back home. Winning 5:1 against one of the best German teams, Bayern Munich left a statement, which proved to the world once more they are the top dog of Germany.
With the title in their pocket, Bayern Munich can make it double, with a Cup win on May 25th, when they face off against Leipzig, who had to settle for 3rd spot in Bundesliga, 10 points behind Borussia Dortmund and 12 points behind Bayern Munich. Should Bayern Munich win, it would be a perfect end of the season for both Robben and Ribery, who will leave Bayern at the end of the season. Two of the most iconic players of the Bavarians, who joined in 2007 (Ribery) and 2009 (Robben) have been with the team through thick and thin, through good and bad, and without a doubt earned their spot in the hall of fame. The pair got 22 Bundesliga seasons, 185 goals and 15 titles between them and will be remembered as one of the best Bayern Munich players.
With that, the 2018/19 season of Bundesliga is finished. Bayern Munich won the title once again, Robert Lewandowski finished as the top goal scorer (22 goals), Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen earned their spot in the UCL next season, while B. Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt get a shot at Europa League.
